Together Bench
A bench that literally brings two people together.
This was a team project I worked on with Atlas Ting! When we started the project, we knew we wanted to create a bench. Many benches are completely flat, and we wanted to create something different- that still resembled a bench but had a unique twist that could really bring people together.
Brainstorming
Here are some drawings we drew as we thought through our ideas. We ended up moving forward with the Togeth-a-bench.
I then built a 3D-model of the design in Rhino to finalize what we would build.
Assembly
We bent and cut metal tubing with a roller and cold saw. We then welded each joint with a tack weld. Tack welds aren't as strong as normal beads, but are definitley enough to carry all of the weight on this bench. If we made any mistakes, tack welds would be much easier to remove.
Final Bench
The bench turned out super fun! It really does push you into the person next to you, and is surprisingly comfortable.
