Glowing Tie
Combining fashion and LEDs to create exciting light-up outfits.
Starting in middle school, I've always been obsessed with adding lights to my outfits for school dances. For 2023 prom, I needed to find a way to incorparate lights without being too cheesy and flashy.
Coming up with a light addition to a prom outfit was difficult. Prom outfits have dark fabric and a common formal attire, so I couldn't shine lights through or change the outfit too much.
With the theme "Aquarium", settled on a simple design: a single light strip that glowed with randomized shades of blue and green. I placed it under the tie, diffusing the light to look more like a glow.
The lights were powered by an Adafruit Feather and a sketchily rewired battery pack to get more voltage.
